§ II

Abstract

On the scope of the work.

A working manual on the administration of a decedent's estate from the petition for probate through the final accounting and discharge of the personal representative.

§ III

Editorial Description

On the structure of the volume.

The manual is organized as a procedure: each chapter corresponds to a stage in the administration and ends with the form or filing that closes the stage.

Part I covers the opening of the estate — the petition, the bond, and the letters. Part II addresses the inventory, the appraisement, and the published notice to creditors.

Part III takes up the prosecution and defense of claims, the abatement of devises, and the order of payment. Part IV treats the tax filings — fiduciary income, estate, and inheritance — at their interfaces with administration.

Part V closes the estate: the final account, the petition for distribution, the receipts and releases, and the order of discharge. An appendix collects representative forms, keyed to the chapters that introduce them.
