Acceptable Use Policy

The Society's canonical standard for the acceptable use of its website, member services, and scholarly surfaces.

Purpose

This Policy establishes the conduct expected of every person who accesses the Society's services. It exists to preserve the integrity of the Society's scholarly environment and to ensure that its surfaces remain hospitable to serious institutional work.

Expected Conduct

Members and visitors are expected to engage with the Society's services in a manner consistent with its scholarly character, with the lawful exercise of their rights, and with respect for fellow members.

Prohibited Conduct

The following categories of conduct are incompatible with the Society's institutional character and are not permitted on any of its surfaces.

  • Use of the Society's services for unlawful purposes or in furtherance of unlawful acts.
  • Conduct intended to disrupt, impair, or compromise the security or availability of the Society's services.
  • Misrepresentation of identity, affiliation, or authority within the Society's surfaces.
  • Harassment, intimidation, or abuse of members, faculty, or staff.
  • Unauthorised reproduction or distribution of the Society's editorial works outside the terms of the Copyright Policy.
  • Use of automated means to extract material from the Society's surfaces other than as expressly permitted.

Enforcement

Where conduct is found to be inconsistent with this Policy, the Society may take such institutional measures as are proportionate to the breach, including warning, restriction, suspension, or termination of access.

Relationship to Other Publications

This Policy is to be read together with the Terms of Service, the Community Standards, and the Membership Agreement.
