Editorial Governance

Publication Ethics

The Society's canonical ethical commitments governing the conduct of authors, reviewers, and editors in connection with its publications.

Principles

Integrity

Scholarly work is conducted, presented, and reviewed with intellectual honesty and without misrepresentation.

Independence

Editorial judgement is exercised independently of commercial or personal interest, and conflicts of interest are disclosed.

Fairness

Authors, reviewers, and subjects of scholarship are treated with the fairness proper to a scholarly institution.

Author Conduct

Authors are responsible for the originality of their work, for the accuracy of its sources, for the appropriate attribution of prior scholarship, and for the disclosure of any conflict of interest material to the work.

Reviewer Conduct

Reviewers are obliged to assess work on its merits, to maintain the confidentiality of materials submitted for review, to disclose any conflict of interest, and to decline review where independence cannot be maintained.

Editorial Conduct

Editors are obliged to make decisions on the basis of editorial merit, to ensure that review is conducted with appropriate rigour, and to preserve the institutional independence of the editorial process.

Misconduct

Allegations of research or publication misconduct are addressed through the Society's institutional process. Where misconduct is established, the Society takes such editorial action as is proportionate, including retraction, correction, or notice in the publication's revision history.

Corrections and Retractions

Corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions are issued openly and recorded in the publication's revision history. The Society does not silently amend the editorial record.
